Exam

7000 members have just sat exams!

For thousands of students (and their parents) June is exam time. For us, and our students, the pressure was on last month when nearly 7,000 students sat exams with us, covering 86 modules, in 10 venues across the island of Ireland and three locations in Poland. The person in charge of this mammoth organisational (and nerve management) feat, Anne Cullen, shares some insights and anecdotes.

1916 article

More from the archives

We've been facilitating exams in the Institute for well over 100 years. Our journal for 1916 notes that 103 members sat exams in 1915 (and only 58 in 1916), down on the previous year’s high. It also notes the effect of World War I on the Institute’s clubs with the competition for the Institute’s Football Cup being abandoned due to the large numbers of members volunteering.

Council

Introducing your new Council

We are delighted to introduce your new Council which took office following the Institute’s AGM in March. These 17 Council members, who give their time and share their expertise without recompense, are responsible for the governance of the Institute.

There were a number of firsts in the election of this Council. For starters, we welcome ten new members. Five members were elected by an electronic ballot, the first time the Institute used this method. Also for the first time, an independent member of Council, Dr Terry McWade, CEO of Valitacell, was elected.

Supporting customers with dementia

Over 48,000 people in Ireland are now said to be living with a diagnosis of dementia. Next year, it’s predicted that 4,000 people will develop the disease. That’s 11 people every day. Some of these people may be your customers. Dementia Elevator is a national programme providing free training for those in financial services on how to support customers living with dementia.
